Days End The day is almost done The sun has just begun To cast an evening glow On this farm that I love so The hay is in the barn The cattle all are fed Suppers on the stove And the fire is cracklin’ red These are the things that I love so This country life of mine More precious than gold A walk through the woods On a warm summer’s day A ride through the snow On an old wooden sleigh The crop that’s in the field The harvest time time yield The Saturday hunt And the church that’s on the hill Blackberries on the vine And scuppernong wine The honeysuckle scent And the wind through the pines The early morning smell Of bacon on the grill The fresh country air The brisk morning chill These are the things that I love so This country life of mine More precious than gold
